mute point instead moot point

A good friend of mine consistently says 'fustrated' instead of 'frustrated', which. Another one calls it a mute point rather than a moot point.

A ”mute point” is just an understandable mistake — since moot and mute are homophones, or at. So, why is that appropriate in most cases instead of which?
